Kitchen Ideas Design Challenge

The second edition of the pan-India Kitchen Ideas Design Challenge is initiated by Kitchen Ideas Magazine, with the objective to nudge the design professionals to bring forth fresh ideas and new design thinking in the area of kitchens

Kitchen Ideas magazine initiated the contest in 2021. Launched in 2013, Kitchen Ideas is the first trade publication that goes beyond the aesthetics of kitchens and maintains an in-depth focus on functionality and Design. Published quarterly, the uniqueness of the magazine lies in its holistic approach, which accommodates Indian sensibilities towards the kitchen area while incorporating an international appeal. Over the years, it has become a reference point for designers on kitchens.

Gnosis Services Pvt Ltd, the company behind Kitchen Ideas, was founded in 2010 with Washrooms and Beyond as its flagship publication. Gnosis is a niche publishing company whose endeavour is to create platforms for professional communities like architecture, interior design, plumbing and technical services.

The company organises seminars, conferences and roundtables bringing the fraternity of architects, interior designers, MEPF consultants, builders and other relevant stakeholders under one roof through initiatives like Design Dialogues, Wb. Honours, Smart Green Sanitation for Smart Green Cities, Urban Sanitation Hurrah, Plumbing & Design, Washroom and Kitchen Seminar, Kitchens Unplugged and Smart Kitchens.

The company also organises a design competition on washrooms for architects and interior designers and has successfully conducted 4 editions along with one edition for students.

The Challenge


Hettich presents Kitchen Ideas Design Challenge
is meant for architectural/interior designing firms/companies, practising architects and interior designers covering pan-India, divided into 4 zones. The 2nd edition is going to follow a phygital format where the submissions and rating for the zonal leg will be done digitally, culminating into an on-ground Grand Finale on 9th February 2024 at a 5-star hotel in Mumbai.

The Category

Architectural firms/companies, interior designing firms/companies, practising architects and interior designers are invited to compete in the Hettich presents Kitchen Ideas Design Challenge in the following category of residential kitchens:

Compact Kitchen:

This category of kitchen will focus on intelligent space management given that space has become a premium, especially in metros. The design should offer a fully functional, modern and gadget-friendly residential kitchen spanning around 60-90 sq. ft.


The idea is to use technology, materials, appliances and fittings in a way to maximise the space in a small kitchen and offer a full-fledged kitchen offering functionalities and experience that can rival its larger counterparts.


The designer needs to incorporate Hettich products while designing the kitchen.

For the category in which Hettich products are not available, the designer can choose products on their own.


Inclusive Washroom:

This category will focus on washroom designs that promote the idea of Inclusive Design. It should be able to meaningfully address the bodily diversity and difference of capacities among human beings.

 

Projects should facilitate unrestricted use of the space by a wider range of users through adaptive design and personal aids. It should take into account the needs and requirements of a diverse set of users – Age Inclusive, Gender Inclusive, Multi-generational household, Reduced Mobility, New borns & Kids etc.

Note: The designer needs to incorporate Hettich products (the 3D images of which are available on this website) while designing the kitchen. The submission must include a concept note, technical drawings with plans and section details and 3D Renders in 300 DPI.

A note highlighting the various features – technology used, storage design, innovative features, Water & energy efficiency features, lighting and ventilation and safety should be provided.

The Jury

The entries will be judged by a jury of eminent architects from across India.

The zonal jurors will decide on the zonal winners.

The zonal winners will compete in the Grand Finale, which will be judged by a panel of national jury

The Process

REGISTRATION OPEN: October 16, 2023

SUBMISSION CLOSE: December 23, 2023

On registration, the participant will be allotted a user id with a password and participants can upload the designs by logging in with the same

The submission will be in the form of a single PDF which could include a maximum of 12 slides in 4:3 ratio (25.4 CM width x 19.05 CM height) and the total size of the PDF should not exceed 16 MB.

The submission should include a Concept Note, technical drawings in 300 DPI and notes on technology, innovation, water & energy efficiency, lighting, ventilation and safety features.

The entries will be judged by the zonal jury of eminent architects and interior designers.

5.

The zonal winners across the four zones will compete nationally in the Grand Finale.

The zonal winners will present their designs on stage to the national jury. This will be followed by the announcement of national winners during the felicitation ceremony.

Grand Finale

The zonal winners from each zone will be hosted (in terms of travel) in Mumbai for the Grand Finale.

The Jury members will also be hosted in Mumbai for the Grand Finale. The zonal winners will then give a presentation on stage to the national jury. After the presentations by the zonal winners, the three national winners will be announced and felicitated at the Grand Finale.

The Grand Finale will be held at a 5-star hotel on 9th February 2024 in Mumbai.

Please note: A TDS of 30% will be deducted on prize money as per statutory guidelines.
